| Beer. John Palmer's book has been my bible. I refer to a lot and learn something new each time. I'm up to batch #28. Another Stout. I had been trying to work my way toward a lighter beer with less bitterness that Karin would like. My last attempt was a light American Wheat that turned out more medium amber and full flavored than I expected. Karin still doesn't like it but I think it is one of my best... and favorites. That's why I have made it 5 times. Batches of Red Ale, Altbier, American Wheat and Stout are conditioning in their bottles! |
Mead. I came across a 1996 article by Rich Webb with replies from Jim Sims and Shane Lofland. It told me everything I needed to know about fermentation, sanitation, flavoring and yeast. Thanks to them I was able to adapt a recipe to my own tastes. Thanks guys. I found a lot of recipes on the web and was surprised at how many called for hops. So, for my first batch that's what I tried. I started small, just 3 gal. I didn't want the syrup-y, sweet kind I've had before so I left out the extra 4 cups of corn sugar. My 5th batch is 2 years in the bottle and is light and bubbly. Very champagne like. I used green tea for bittering and raspberry flavoring from B3 this time. It turned out great! |
| Batch documentation & Evaluation form MS Office2000 Excel Spreadsheet. This one is blank. It's a compilation of a few different ones I've found. Some were too detailed. This fits right in at my hobby level. Maybe in a few years, when I get my own brew sculpture, I will get more detailed. (See them at the Beer, Beer & More Beer (B3) site. Wow!) |
